Activities in Ibiza - Everyone knows it is famous for its Clubba, Beaches Parties and Restaurants, but there is more to the island.
Cycling is Ibiza can be a real adventure and is a great way to discover or even rediscover the island. Away from the very hot summer months, this method of transport comes into its own, whether being a way to get from A to B or as a complete day out.
There are documented route maps that you can purchase or just go with the flow and enjoy getting to your destination.
Ibiza even has it own cycle race held in December called La Carrera del Pavo or The Turkey Race, which is a 41km race attracting participants from all over Europe.
Cycling is also a great way to visit the more compact island of Formentera. Bikes can be hired from rental outlets that are apparent as soon as you disembark the ferry.
Another great out-of-season activity best enjoyed when the heat is less intense.
Ibiza Now, the publishers of the monthly magazine covering life and news in Ibiza and Formentera, also publish two hiking guides. They each detail 12 tours ranging from traditional old island paths up to dizzying heights of the cliffs. The guides are available in good bookshops or directly on +34 971 319 262.
Check these web sites for details of scenic tours that allow someone else to do the driving. It’s also a great way to socialise.
A visit to the famous Hippy Market on the grounds of the holiday club Punta Arabí in Es Cana, near Santa Eulalia, held every Wednesday (from May to October) from 10.00 – 19.00 hrs is a must. At the market you have an enormous variety to choose from: the most exotic batik wraps and clothing to tailor-made leather moccasins and an tantalising variety of east-Asian silver jewellery and trinkets. If you look around you can still find some of the original hippies, although most of them have grey hair by now! Like a time-warp back to the 1970s.
C’an Marça Caves
Breathtaking sea views as you descend steeply to the entrance. Enter this multi-level, yellow-gold world, plotting the smugglers’ ancient route with a multilingual guide. Mysteriously, silently over eons, stalagmites and stalactites have formed into figures, temples and rocket stations. At the heart is a spectacular Music & Light Show with a 30 ft. cascade of diamond-bright water. Tours run hourly from 10.30 hrs until sunset. Open all year.
The regular ferry from Ibiza Town port to Formentera takes between 25mins to 50mins depending on which type of craft is used. It will drop you in the port where it is possible to hire a bicycle or motor scooter or catch a taxi to one of the many beaches. The most popular beach is Ses Illetes, which features shallow water and beachside restaurants.
Here are the timetables for the “Linea Jet” and “Linea Express” ferries. The “Linea Jet” ferry takes 25 minutes to arrive at it’s destination whereas the “Linea Express” takes 35 minutes. This is the summer schedule.
You could check with Balearia before travel, however in practice the ferries are so frequent that there is little need. Just don’t miss the last ferry back!
Explore Ibiza from the sea by chartering a boat with a captain. With over 200km of coastline harbouring idyllic coves and inlets, this is a great way to discover otherwise inaccessible beaches.
Chartering a boat is also an alternative way to visit Formentera where you can drop anchor at Ses Illetes. A number of reputable boat charter companies are available.

Water temperatures range from 18°C in May to 26°C; in August making the island ideal for many types of water sports, including waterskiing, jet skiing, sailing, windsurfing, parasailing, banana-boat or even a relaxing pedalo.
